Zur Eventisierung städtischer Räume / On the eventification of urban space

EurovisionSongContest und Euro 2008, Kommerz und Kontrolle

What are the urban implications of popular large-scale events? How do they transform public spaces? In which ways are these events used to accomplish measures that would not be agreeable under “normal” circumstances? Are mega-events the hottest tool for neoliberal urban policy? What can we do to prevent the eventification of our cities? Ani Dießelmann (Freiraum Düsseldorf) and Anke Hagemann (Berlin/Hamburg) are going to present case studies from Düsseldorf (Eurovision Song Context 2011) and Zurich (European Football Championship 2008) and forms of activism in the context of these mega-events as a background for discussions.
